From The Archives: A Portrait of Martin Luther King, Jr.

In observance of the birth of Martin Luther King Jr. this month, I dug through my archives and pulled up this portrait that I painted some years ago.

As an illustrator, one of my focuses is to present game-changers — people who were and are so influential for the good that they impacted culture and left or are leaving a lasting legacy. King, a Christian pastor, family man and civil rights activist, is (along with William Wilberforce, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln) one of my heroes. I don’t choose my heroes lightly.

Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step. – Martin Luther King, Jr. 1929-1968
